A Capelet is a short version of a Cape. Most of ours are approximately 80cm (31”) long from the nape of the neck to the hem. Each item we produce is individually cut and stitched so there can be a variance in exact finished dimensions.

We have designed and cut these Capelets to be worn open. The intention is to be able to give you the look of an outer garment and to give that finishing touch without taking away from the look of the rest of your outfit. They will cover your shoulders and back and are cut away at the front to keep your outfit as visible as possible as well as to be obvious but not impede your movement. Of course the smaller your shoulders, the smaller the opening at the front and vice versa.

This Capelet is a Navy Woven Suiting exterior with a coordinating rich Teal lining and a beautiful, small antique brass ornate hook-and-eye closure. (Our model is approximately 185cm(6’1”) tall and 84kg (185lbs)

As with all of our outerwear, we have attempted to keep any visible stitching to a minimum. They are fully lined and professionally finished. All Capelets come with an ornate metal hook-and-eye type closure at the throat.

We are always amused by the reception our Capelets get from people who aren’t sure what they are looking for or ‘just want to try something on’ in the shoppe or when they see our booth at a show. Capelets are surprisingly wearable and can really add a nice finishing touch to a costume without taking away from it or adding too much of a dramatic extra layer as can happen with a cloak or robe for example.

They are also just the right size to make fantastic instant costumes for little ones!
